Reduce Wrinkles & Maintain A Natural Look

Facial plastic surgeon Dr. Robb of Robb Facial Plastic Surgery is a facial specialist. He is an expert in using neuromodulators like BOTOX, Dysport, Xeomin, Jeuveau, and he administers them personally instead of delegating to medical aides or aestheticians, like many plastic surgery centers do. Neuromodulators reduce the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing select muscles.

They can be used to create subtle facial changes, like contouring an eyebrow arch. When done by an expert, neuromodulators do not freeze the face, but rather allow natural expression that doesn’t result in more wrinkles or fine lines. The results of neuromodulators are extremely patient specific, and because of this, each patient requires a customized approach.

What Are Neuromodulators?

Neuromodulators relax or weaken the muscles they are injected into. BOTOX, Dysport, Jeuveau, and Xeomin are the four most used brands. All are renowned for preserving beauty and youth by decreasing skin folds and wrinkles.

The proper application of neuromodulators is key, as incorrect use of these medicines can have undesired effects. Dr. Robb specializes in facial procedures, and has extensive surgical expertise and a thorough understanding of facial muscle anatomy. These qualities combined make him exceptionally qualified to give you the best results possible.

Am I Too Young For BOTOX?

Neuromodulators such as BOTOX or Dysport are best used as ‘prejuvenation’, before wrinkles have permanently set in. BOTOX and Dysport weaken the muscles prone to causing lines and wrinkles, and thus decrease further wrinkling. Proactive and appropriate use of neuromodulators can significantly slow down effects of aging. Many patients choose to begin treatments in their 20s and 30s.

Is BOTOX Absorbed Into Your System? Is It Dangerous?

Like any other medical treatment, it’s important that your injector knows the intricacies of facial anatomy and is well-versed in the use of neuromodulators. When performed correctly, the medicine is not absorbed into the circulatory system. BOTOX is FDA approved, which means it has been rigorously studied and proven to be safe and effective.

What’s The Difference Between BOTOX And Dysport?

While similar, BOTOX and Dysport have a few differences. Below is a snapshot comparison of the two:

  • Both are FDA approved to be safe
  • Both are made of Onabotulinum toxin, type A
  • Dysport is a smaller molecule (allows it to work faster than BOTOX)
  • Both are active for approximately for 3 months

I’ve Had BOTOX Before And I Don’t Like How It Looks

In experienced hands, conservative treatments look natural and can improve anyone’s facial appearance. Below is a sampling of what properly administered BOTOX can do:

  • Eyebrows can be shaped and contoured
  • Vertical lines between the eyebrows can be softened or removed
  • Horizontal lines on the forehead can be softened or removed
  • Crows feet can be reduced or removed
  • Lip lines can be softened
  • Lower facial thickness can be narrowed

Can Neuromodulators Work For Me?

Neuromodulators weaken the muscles of the face and are a quick and effective treatment that can have a significant impact on signs of aging and overall facial appearance for many. When used properly, neuromodulators can smooth the forehead and the area between the eyebrows, prevent or decrease crows feet, and can even raise the eyebrow while preserving the ability to have natural facial expressions. During your consultation, Dr. Robb will assess if neuromodulators are right for you.

What Causes Fine Lines And Wrinkles?

Aging and sun damage over time causes the skin to become thinner, and a decrease in skin elasticity and subcutaneous facial fat. In addition to this, we have a complex series of muscles in our faces that are responsible for facial movements. As these muscles contract over and over again, the skin develops creases; after many years the creases become static, which means they don’t disappear when the face is relaxed.

With the use of neuromodulators, Dr. Robb is able to target specific muscles and selectively weaken them. He is also able to shape the face using BOTOX, including elevating the eyebrow or narrowing of the lower face. It is important to note that neuromodulators can but generally do not erase fine lines or wrinkles that are present when the face is neutral; resurfacing treatments may be needed in such cases.

Preparation For The Procedure

BOTOX and Dysport treatments are a powerful way to prevent signs of aging and provide subtle facial enhancement. Quick, painless, and with high rates of patient satisfaction, neuromodulators can delay the need for facelifts and other serious surgical corrections. Dr. Robb believes that educating patients is key before beginning treatment.

Any makeup will be removed from the treatment areas prior to the procedure, so we recommend bringing your makeup if you need it for the rest of your day. Abstaining from the use of all blood thinners like Advil, Motrin, Aleve, and herbal medicines can help prevent bruising. Pineapple and arnica have been shown to decrease bruising as well.

What Happens During The Procedure?

After a thorough discussion to assess your areas of concern and aesthetic goals, Dr. Robb Jr. or our nurse provider will take pictures for proper documentation. Then, measurements and markings are usually made to ensure symmetry. After the marking phase, the neuromodulator is injected into the skin in a quick and painless way.

Areas most commonly treated include the forehead, glabella (area between the eyebrows), and the crows feet, but other areas can be addressed as needed. Pressure will be held over the treated areas to help prevent bruising. Our goal is to have you return to life quickly, without any signs of treatment.

After The Procedure

The neuromodulator is absorbed into the target area about 10-20 minutes after the procedure. To prevent bruising or swelling, patients should wait at least 4 hours before lying down or engaging in intense physical activity. Minimal bruising can result from treatment on some occasions, but this can be covered with makeup. The effects of neuromodulators are not immediate; muscles will weaken over the course of the next few days. If there are any questions or concerns, Dr. Robb is available to help.

Results

Results begin to take effect in 24 hours and peak around 2 weeks. Dr. Robb Likes to see patients for a follow-up visit two weeks after injection, especially if they are first-time patients, to make sure results are optimal. The effects of neuromodulators typically last for 3-5 months.

Sunscreen combined with medical-grade skincare will preserve your results and your face’s youthful look in general. Results are additive; this means that many years of consistent treatment significantly prevent signs of aging.
