A Powerful Way To Revamp Your Skin

Aging, sun exposure, fine lines and wrinkles, and stubborn blemishes happen to almost everyone. These imperfections can make you appear older than you feel, and cause feelings of low self-confidence about your appearance. Thankfully the skin is a powerful organ capable of renewal, with the help of treatments like chemical peels.

How Do Chemical Peels Improve The Skin?

Chemical peels strip the surface layer of damaged skin, and make room for newer skin cells to emerge. These are virgin skin cells devoid of the problems of the older skin cells.

The healthier cells leave your face looking more youthful and hydrated, and can reduce and sometimes eliminate blemishes like age spots or hyperpigmentation.

Chemical peels are also effective at reducing fine lines and wrinkles. There are many different chemical peels that have varying levels of potency; some are even able to penetrate the skin at deeper levels.

What Can I Expect Before A Chemical Peel?

During your consultation, a medical aesthetician will evaluate your skin and recommend the appropriate chemical peel for you based on your needs. Once the correct solution has been identified, our expert aesthetician will inform you of the right way to prepare; some chemical peels require the avoidance of certain skin treatments before they can be performed, in order to keep the skin well-protected.

What Should I Expect During The Treatment?

The complete treatment typically lasts for 45 minutes, which includes time to address any questions you may have, the chemical peel itself, and instructions for your post-peel care. Application of most chemical peels is around 20 minutes. Tingling or burning sensations are normal for most patients, though each person has their own level of tolerance. A handheld fan can be used during the procedure to minimize discomfort, which usually subsides in a few minutes.

How Will My Skin Look Right After A Chemical Peel?

Most patients can expect mild to moderate redness after any type of chemical peel. The extent of redness varies from patient to patient. Redness will completely resolve after peeling is complete and your new surface skin cells grow in. Your aesthetician will provide you with in-depth post-procedure instructions. Your post-peel regimen will include a sensitive cleanser and moisturizer appropriate for your skin type, and sunscreens (tinted or untinted).

How Can I Protect My Skin Post Peel?

Since the new skin is more susceptible to sunburn, extra precautions should be taken to limit sun exposure for at least one week after the peel. It is imperative to use a sunscreen product with an SPF of 30 or higher. You can resume the use of your regular treatment products after you have completely finished peeling.

What Results Can I Expect After The Peel?

You will notice an improvement in the appearance of overall skin condition, with softer skin that has a healthy glow. Blemishes, scars, and age spots will be reduced and in some cases, gone. Fine lines and wrinkles will be less noticeable, and your skin will have more even pigmentation. Chemical peel treatments are a great addition to your beauty routine, and can be repeated every 3-4 weeks.

How Many Treatments Are Required?

For most patients, multiple treatments over time may be required to achieve desired results. The number of treatments required is based on the level of damage and the patient’s aesthetic goals and typically ranges from 1 to 6 sessions.

The results of chemical peels are cumulative and more favorable when the peels are performed in a series. To maintain optimal results, patients should use a daily skin care regimen recommended by Dr. Robb or our medical aesthetician.
