Upper BlepharoplastyA Simple and Powerful Procedure

The eyes tell the story; the Bible refers to this multiple times, and Shakespeare famously said, “the eyes are the window to the soul”. At Robb Facial Plastic Surgery, we couldn’t agree more! The confidence experienced after an eye rejuvenation procedure is powerful.

Rejuvenate The Eyes…Naturally

The biggest concern with eyelid procedures is an unnatural look. Dr. Robb’s technique is specially designed to create natural and youthful eyes. At Robb Facial Plastic Surgery, we’re proud to have never made someone look fake, weird, overdone, or unnatural. This is something to pay attention to when researching plastic surgeons for this procedure.

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is designed to revitalize the eyes and make them look more youthful and vibrant again. This quick and typically painless procedure can remove up to 10-15 years from your appearance. Dr. Robb Jr. and his expert team go out of their way to ensure each patient’s experience is safe and comfortable, and accomplishes their aesthetic goals.

What Is An Upper Blepharoplasty?

Eyelid surgery removes redundant skin and fullness from the eyelids. The excessive skin and puffiness are often genetic and noticeable at a young age, and it worsens with time. This procedure is not always associated with aging, however. Some patients are younger and simply desire more open, attentive, and attractive eyes.

Dr. Robb performs this procedure almost daily and employs the most advanced techniques in the industry. A general approach that results in the “over-operated look” is reducing or removing too much fat from around the eye. This is classically what plastic surgeons do during an upper eyelid surgery, but is NOT what Dr. Robb does anymore. Today, volumized eyes are considered youthful. Fat transfer or transposition is often combined with a blepharoplasty to aid in midfacial rejuvenation.

Expect Unparalleled Results

This short surgery rejuvenates the face unlike any other procedure. Eye contact is SO critical in our daily lives. After this procedure, your social interactions will be more positive, pleasant, and enjoyable! You will appear well-rested and vibrant, and naturally look years younger.

Many patients elect for laser resurfacing of the face as well to remove fine lines, wrinkles, sun spots, and other skin imperfections. An upper eyelid lift can even be performed in our office with local numbing agents for many patients. Upper eyelid surgery is extremely well tolerated, quick, and relies on local sedation instead of general anesthesia. This means no nausea, sore throat, or anesthesia ‘hangover’.

Upper Blepharoplasty Scarring

Scarring is never okay in facial surgery. Being a complete FACIAL expert, Dr. Robb Jr. employs special techniques to decrease scarring. Generally, with the upper eyelid procedure there are no visible scars. At Robb Facial Plastic Surgery, we’re proud to say that this has not been a significant issue for any patients thus far. Dr. Robb performs this procedure almost every day with consistently great results.

Lower Blepharoplasty

Lower eyelid surgery targets puffiness, bags, discoloration, dark circles, and deep troughs under the eyes. Under-eye bags form as the tissues surrounding the eyes relax, causing prolapse, or puffiness. This is primarily genetic and worsens with age.

There are two common surgical approaches to lower eyelid surgery, and Dr. Robb Jr. uses the technique that does not require an incision through the skin, which is considered more advanced. This approach results in no scars and offers a quicker recovery. The key to Dr. Robb’s technique is removing the perfect amount of fat to leave a smooth, natural appearance.

A World Class And Private Surgical Center

Lower eyelid procedures are usually conducted in our private, exclusive, North Point Surgery Center that is attached to our office. General anesthesia is used to ensure our patients are comfortable. Our anesthesia is only administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist who utilizes industry best practices to reduce, and in some cases, eliminate nausea and other side effects of anesthesia.

Our surgical facility is a deluxe, specially designed, and fully accredited and certified surgery center that is very different from a hospital or multi-specialty surgery center. There are NO sick patients at our center, we use only the highest quality materials, instruments, and cleaning protocols. Dr. Robb Jr. operates with the same team each day for consistent, undivided attention on you - the patient!

The Lower Blepharoplasty Procedure Explained

The procedure will begin by discussing any lingering questions or concerns with Dr. Robb in the pre-op area. Markings on the skin are then made with a marker to plan the procedure. Dr. Robb refers to this as the “road map”, and it is one of the most important parts of the surgery.

The anesthesia used in Dr. Robb’s surgeries is a top-tier variety that consists of sedation with propofol. This cocktail leaves patients refreshed after their surgeries, without nausea or any ‘hangover’ feelings. Every detail of patient safety, comfort, and tranquility is obsessed over in order to make each patient’s experience a wonderful one!

Recovery After Your Blepharoplasty in Atlanta

Dr. Robb Jr. designs this procedure with minimal recovery in mind. Patients can expect a quick recovery. Upper blepharoplasty patients will return about five days after surgery to have their sutures removed. Lower blepharoplasty does not require sutures, so our patients revisit three weeks post-surgery for a post-op visit. Sometimes a visit a couple of days after the surgery is scheduled to ensure things are healing well.

After the surgery, patients can expect minimal discomfort and swelling. Bruising is usually minimal to non-existent in the surgical area. Our office will give you explicit instructions on how to properly care for your eyes. During the recovery period, it is important that you avoid rubbing your eyes and working out for 2 weeks. Showering is permitted 24 hours after surgery.

Helpful Ways To Speed Up Your Recovery

Ice or frozen peas can be placed on the eyes 20 mins on/20 mins off continually while awake to minimize swelling and bruising. Keeping the head elevated during the first week after surgery decreases swelling and will result in quicker healing.

A powerful way to speed your healing is the use of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. If there are any questions or concerns, Dr. Robb is available to ease your mind - anxiety is not part of your recovery with us. Every patient gets Dr. Robb’s personal cell phone number during their recovery.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy For Recovery

To accelerate the healing of your eyelid surgery in Atlanta, we offer the Robb Rapid Recovery Program, which includes multiple sessions in our hyperbaric oxygen chamber. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, or HBOT, is conducted in a large chamber where the body is infused with a significantly higher oxygen concentration than normal. This heightened amount of oxygen promotes faster recovery and lessens swelling and discomfort as you heal.

Scars often heal better and are less visible after HBOT. HBOT is a great tool for those who historically have difficulties healing. Dr. Robb can walk you through the advantages of HBOT during your consultation. HBOT is only for patients who want to heal better, quicker, and more thoroughly, and has been an absolute game changer in our patients’ experience!
