A Modern Approach to Nasal Recontouring

The standard rhinoplasty procedure has evolved tremendously over the last decade. Today, the method of breaking and reconstructing the nose is no longer the only option. The traditional approach involves increased pain and recovery time for the patient and makes minor adjustments more complicated for the surgeon. Thanks to advances in cosmetic technology, there is a much gentler and more precise way to reshape the nose called an ultrasonic rhinoplasty.

Is Ultrasonic Rhinoplasty For Me?

Do you want to erase imperfections in your nose, but fear the pain and significant downtime required with a traditional rhinoplasty? As long as you are in good overall health and at least 15 years old, an ultrasonic rhinoplasty could be a great option to explore. Below are some common reasons patients pursue an ultrasonic rhinoplasty:

  • Unappealing bumps or humps on the bridge of the nose
  • Need reconstruction of the nose following an accident or injury
  • No time for a long recovery

What Is An Ultrasonic Rhinoplasty?

Ultrasonic rhinoplasty, also referred to as Piezo rhinoplasty, uses a specialized tool powered by concentrated acoustic vibrations to shave and sculpt nasal bones. Ultrasonic rhinoplasties allow the plastic surgeon to delicately contour the nose with much higher accuracy and reduce pain and recovery time for the patient. Swelling is also significantly minimized; this is important for patient comfort but also vital for the results of the rhinoplasty - swelling impacts the way the nose sets, and excessive swelling can change the contour created by the surgeon.

What Happens During The Procedure?

Ultrasonic rhinoplasties occur in our accredited surgical facilities, where the patient is placed under general anesthesia. Dr. Robb then makes an incision to separate the skin from the nasal bones and cartilage. He then uses the ultrasonic tool to meticulously sculpt the nose into the desired shape.

One major benefit of ultrasonic rhinoplasty is that only the bone is manipulated, leaving the surrounding tissue undamaged. This results in less trauma to the nose, and therefore less bruising and swelling. Once the desired contour has been achieved, Dr. Robb closes the incisions.

What Is Recovery Like For An Ultrasonic Rhinoplasty?

While swelling will be significantly less than with a traditional rhinoplasty, it will still occur. Patients should plan to recover over two to three weeks. Pain and bruising will also be a factor, and there will be a scar at the incision point. You may feel some numbness in the area as well. With time, these side effects will ease, and your incision scar will fade.

Dr. Robb will create a custom recovery plan for you and personally check in during your recovery. Robb Facial Plastic Surgery offers a variety of post-operative treatments to make recovery and scar care as easy as possible. One such treatment is the Rapid Recovery Program, which includes sessions of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, or HBOT, to accelerate healing and keep bruising and swelling minimal.
