Aging inevitably leads to our upper eyelid skin hanging down and “hooding” over our eyes. This makes us look fatigued, worn out, and disinterested. Compounding this appearance of fatigue and worn out, the lower eyelids create bags, deep tear troughs, and discoloration that attract unwanted attention to our eyes.

Upper eyelid surgery focuses on removing the redundant skin and fullness from the upper lids. This short procedure rejuvenates the face unlike any other procedure. Patients hear that they look “well rested, vibrant and they look 20 years younger.”
Often performed in the office with local numbing medications, it’s extremely well tolerated, quick, with no anesthesia and thus no nausea, sore throat, or hangover associate with those medications.
Lower eyelid surgery targets the puffiness, discoloration, and deep troughs under the eyes. Under eye bags are created as the tissues surround the eyes relaxes – thus the prolapse, or puffiness, occurs. Lower eyelid surgery is usually performed in a surgical center with anesthesia to ensure our patients are comfortable. There are two common surgical approaches to lower eyelid surgery, Dr. Robb will discuss both of them with you during your consultation.
The key with this surgery is that the perfect amount of fat is addressed to leave a smooth, natural, and un-operated appearance.
PREPARATION FOR BLEPHAROPLASTY
Preparation for any medical procedure begins with realistic results. For eyelid surgery, Dr. Robb will ask about any past eye problems including surgeries or dry eyes.
Dr. Robb is extremely well trained in orbital surgery and currently performs a myriad of orbital surgeries including fracture repair, lid repositioning, and reconstruction of the lids after cancer resection in addition to eyelid lift.
Occasionally, Dr. Robb will request that you see an eye doctor if he’s concerned about any specific issues- your safety is our primary concern.
Stopping all blood thinners and NSAIDS (advil, ibuprofen, motrin, aleve) is important 1-2 weeks prior to the procedure
Medications for after your procedure can be picked prior to your day of surgery so you have them on hand.
Arrange rides to/from our office on the day of the procedure even in the case for local anesthesia only- as swelling can make driving unsafe.
Upper eyelid surgery often performed at Robb Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Alpharetta Georgia is often completed within our office under local anesthesia. Local anesthesia has many benefits including no IVs, decreased complications of a general anesthetic, decreased post operative risk, and has is overall higher safety profile. No breathing tube, no breathing machine, and decreased overall health risk. There is no hangover period associated with local anesthetic as well which makes this method very attractive for certain procedures.
Lower eyelid surgery is usually performed at a surgery center under sedation. The procedure will begin by discussing any more questions or concerns with Dr. Robb in the pre-op area. Skin markings will be made on the skin to address the problem areas. When you wake up a small dressing and some hidden sutures will be in place and the bags/puffiness will be gone.
We go out of our way to ensure your experience is safe, comfortable, and accomplishes your goals.
Our office will give you explicit instructions on how to care for your eyes. No rubbing the eyes is very important for 2 weeks. Showering is permitted 24hrs after surgery
Ice or frozen peas can be placed on the eyes 20mins on and 20mins off continually while awake to minimize swelling and bruising.
Keeping the head elevated during the first week after surgery helps to decrease the swelling and will result in quick healing times.
If there are any questions or concerns, Dr. Robb makes himself available to his patients to ease your mind- anxiety is not part of your recovery with us.
