Aging affects everyone differently, but common signs like sagging skin, deep wrinkles, and jowls often lead people to explore facial rejuvenation options. At Robb Facial Plastic Surgery, Dr. Philip K. Robb Jr. —double board-certified and a true facial specialist—offers a true and enhanced vertical vector Deep Plane Facelift. When paired with other specific and customized enhancements, we refer to this collection of procedures as the signature “Robb Refresh”, the most advanced and natural-looking surgical rejuvenation available today. With a focus on safety, artistry, long lasting beautiful results, and compassionate care, here’s what you can expect before, during, and after your facelift.
What Is a Facelift?
A facelift (rhytidectomy) is a surgical procedure designed to reverse visible signs of facial aging by repositioning deeper facial structures and removing excess skin. Think: Creating a sharper jawline. Here’s what you need to know:
During the procedure, Dr. Robb makes discreet incisions, typically beginning at the temples inside the hairline, continuing around the ears, and extending behind the ear. These incisions heal beautifully.
Through these incisions, the we carefully elevate the skin and underlying tissues, allowing access to the SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system) and deeper facial ligaments that support the face. These are effortlessly elevated, often using sterile q tips to separate the tissues, yes, it’s really that gentle!
In the signature Robb Refresh, Deep Plane Facelift, the dissection occurs beneath the SMAS layer, allowing for comprehensive vertical repositioning of the cheeks, jawline, and lower face. This technique releases key retained ligaments (anchors) without tension on the skin, resulting in a smoother, more natural appearance. Unlike traditional facelifts, this method focuses on underlying structures and releasing ALL THE DEEP TENSION of the face - thereby resulting in a tension free lift leading to longer-lasting results.
This advanced approach minimizes visible scarring and reduces recovery time while preserving normal facial sensation and blood supply, leading to healthier skin and more refined healing. This is critical to understand… More work deeper in the face, keeps your skin attached to the muscle and thus it maintains its natural beautiful glow. A critical and often overlooked advantage.
Before Surgery: The Consultation Process
Your journey begins with a highly personalized consultation with our Patient Care Coordinators who will gather and give you key information. Throughout these discussions with our coordinators, if it sounds like you may be a good candidate, photos are requested and reviewed by Dr. Robb. This helps us communicate what procedures could be relevant to your refresh and once again ensure that you’re a proper candidate for our techniques.
Then, at your in-person consultation, Dr. Robb and his team will:
- Discuss your goals and medical history
- Review your facial anatomy and educate you with our software
- Recommend a tailored surgical plan - your individualized Robb Refresh
- Explain cost, procedure details, and recovery expectations
This education-first approach ensures you’re informed, confident, and empowered. In fact, many patients appreciate that Dr. Robb only recommends surgery when it’s truly beneficial.
What Happens on the Day of Surgery?
Your facelift will occur at North Point Surgery Center, Dr. Robb’s private, accredited surgical facility in Alpharetta, GA. Attached to our office- all under one roof! Here’s what to expect:
- To be greeted by our nurse and a IV started
- You’ll meet with Dr. Robb and he’ll perform Pre-op markings with your anatomy and goals in mind

You’ll wake up with a protective facial dressing and go home the same day. The dressing is removed the next morning in a follow-up visit.
Recovery and Results
Due to reduced trauma and maintained blood supply, recovery from a Deep Plane Facelift is often quicker and more comfortable than that from older techniques. Most patients return to work within 1–2 weeks and are event-ready by 3–4 weeks.
Expect the following:
- Little to no bruising in many cases
- Personalized access to Dr. Robb via his direct cell number- he will check on your throughout your recovery
- Recovery guidance, including elevated head positioning and customized skincare
- Robb Rapid Recovery Program *RRRP Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) to speed healing, reduce swelling, and improve scar quality (Mayo Clinic)
Drains may be used to reduce fluid buildup and promote optimal healing if combined with a deep neck lift.
While no procedure can stop aging, a Deep Plane Facelift effectively resets the clock significantly! Results continue to improve over 4–6 months and last for many years. Your refreshed look will endure beautifully with the proper skincare and sun protection.
