Permanent, Naturally Contoured Cheeks

The shape of the midface is dictated by the cheeks. Buccal fat, fat pads in the cheeks, can make one look younger than they are if there is an excessive amount of fat. Over time, these fat pads in the cheeks sag, resulting in a hangdog or droopy appearance. With buccal fat removal, Dr. Robb can permanently correct excessive cheek fullness or drooping.

Who Is A Good Candidate For Buccal Fat Removal?

Do you have a round face and wish you had more definition? Do people often tell you that you have a baby face, or do you feel like you never lost the chunk cheeks of childhood? Buccal fat removal might be right for you. If you desire chiseled or finely contoured cheekbones without the constant maintenance that dermal fillers require, this simple surgery could help.

How Does Buccal Fat Removal Help?

Buccal fat is the cheek fat that contributes to a round face. It’s sometimes referred to as ‘baby fat’. Buccal fat removal reduces or eliminates these pockets of fat; this procedure can balance the lower third of the face and accentuate the cheekbones to create the beautiful facial contours seen on magazine covers and red carpets. In fact, Dr. Robb Jr. has performed buccal fat removal on Hollywood A-Listers.

A thorough understanding of how facial proportions are affected by aging is vital when surgically altering one’s facial shape, which is why discerning patients choose surgeons like Dr. Robb, who specialize in facial cosmetic surgery. A facial specialist like Dr. Robb has the discernment to know how much fat to remove, and the best techniques to use for minimal discomfort and fast recovery.

Buccal Fat Removal Surgery

This procedure requires a comprehensive knowledge of facial anatomy. Facial nerves and small saliva ducts can be easily affected by a surgeon who lacks experience. Injury to any of these structures can produce pain and other negative side effects. Dr. Robb performs buccal fat removal in office under local anesthesia, or in the Robb Facial Plastic Surgery fully accredited operating facilities, if anesthesia is required.

The procedure takes approximately 1 hour. Incisions are carefully made inside the mouth, and there is no risk of external scarring. Dr. Robb locates the pad of buccal fat and gently removes all or some of it, according to the patient’s aesthetic goals, before closing the incision.

Buccal Fat Recovery & Results

After the procedure, the cheeks swell similar to how they would after a wisdom tooth extraction. This swelling lasts just a couple of days, and overall, discomfort is very minimal. The incisions are sutured with dissolvable sutures, and results are immediately noticeable.

After the swelling subsides, the new facial contour will be even more evident and last a lifetime. Patients can expect a more sculpted face and a chiseled, fit appearance that looks completely natural. The tissue removed does not grow back, so this surgery never needs to be redone.
