Am I too young for Botox(R)?
Neuromodulators such as Botox or Dysport are best used BEFORE wrinkles have permanently set in on your face. These treatments work to weaken the muscles and thus decrease further wrinkling and can significantly slow down the aging effects. Many patients choose to begin treatments in their 20s and 30s. Beginning treatment early has been proven to be effective in an interesting identical twin study pictured below.
Is Botox absorbed into your system? Is it dangerous?
Like any other medical treatment, it’s important that your physician knows the intricate facial anatomy and the fine details of the treatment. When performed correctly, the medicine is not absorbed into the circulatory system. Botox is FDA approved meaning that it has been studied and found to be safe for humans.
What’s the difference between Botox and Dysport?
Here are some points to clear up any confusion regarding the two medicines
– both are FDA approved to be safe
– both are Onabotulinum toxin type A
– Dysport is a smaller molecule (allows it to work faster than Botox)
– both are active for approximately 3 months

bruising, undesired effects requiring additional treatment
Neuromodulators (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin) weaken the muscles of the face and are a quick and effective treatment that can make a significant difference in your aging and overall facial appearance.
When used properly, these treatments smooth the forehead and glabella (area between the eyebrows), prevent or decrease crows feet, and can even raise the eye brow while preserving the ability to have facial expression.
Through aging and sun damage, the skin becomes thinner, the elasticity decreases, and the subcutaneous facial fat decreases and descends. In addition to this, we have a complex series of muscles under the face responsible for facial movements. As these muscles contract over and over again, the skin gets creased; add in enough years of life and the creases become “static” that is they don’t dissapear when the face is relaxed. Through these treatments, we are able to target these muscles and selectively weaken them. We are also able to shape the face using botox including causing eyebrow elevation or narrowing of the lower face.
PREPARATION FOR THE PROCEDURE
This treatment is the best way to prevent aging and provide subtle facial enhancement. Quick, painless, and extremely highly rated, this treatment is foundational in order to prevent aging. Dr. Robb believes that educating our patients is the most important aspect of preparation for botox treatments.
We recommend bringing your make up if you need it to carry on the rest of your day as Dr. Robb will remove your make up from the treatment areas during cleaning.
The results begin to take effect in 24hrs and peak at 2 weeks. Dr. Robb likes to see his patients 2 weeks after injection especially for first new patients.
Stopping all blood thinners, advil, motrin, aleve, and herbal medicines can help prevent bruising.
Pineapple and arnica have been shown to decrease bruising as well.
After a thorough discussion to asses your areas of concern and goals, Dr. Robb will take pictures for proper documentation.
Measurements and markings are often made to ensure symmetry or to restore symmetry as most people’s faces are slightly asymmetric. After the marking, the medicine is injected into the skin in a quick and painless fashion.
Areas most commonly treated include the forehead, glabella (area between the eyebrows), and the crows feet, but other areas can be addressed as needed.
Pressure will be held over the treated areas to help prevent bruising. Our goal is always that you can return to life quickly without any signs of the treatment.
AFTER THE PROCEDURE
The medication is absorbed in 10-20minutes after the procedure. To prevent bruising or swelling, waiting at least 4 hours from lying down or intense physical activity is advised.
Minimal bruising can result from treatment on occasional circumstances- these can be covered with make up.
The effects of these medications is not immediate, allow several days for the muscles to weaken.
If there are any questions or concerns, Dr. Robb makes himself available to his patients at all times to ease your mind.
Effects begin to appear in 24-48 hours after treatment and peak at 2 weeks. We like to see first time patients back at 2 weeks after injection to confirm that they have received optimum results Results last 3-5 months.
Sunscreen combined with medical grade skin care will preserve your results and your face while allowing our work to stay fresh for longer.
Results are additive; many years of consistent treatment significantly prevent signs of aging.
